Ever wonder how and where we raise our puppies? Take a tour of our home!
BEFORE DELIVERY DAY
The WHELPING ROOM is set up and sanitized. Labor, delivery and the puppy's first 3 weeks are spent here. Momma is comfortable and cozy in her own space away from the rest of the household dogs and noises.
|
Records are kept from each labor and delivery to help me keep track of how each little momma whelps. I have a camera in the whelping room so I can keep an eye on momma and pups at all times.
Heidi is ready and waiting!

WHELPING DAY & WEEK ONE
The whelping room is kept nice and warm since the tiny 4-6 ounce pups can't regulate their body temperature yet. Momma also gets breakfast, lunch, and dinner in bed since she really doesn't like to leave the pups.
|
I weigh each pup morning and night to be sure everyone is thriving.
We always have to sneak in a photo shoot of our brand new furbabies!

WEEK TWO
The puppies open their eyes this week. Always so exciting to see the puppies "wake up" with eyes open instead of sealed closed. Our biggest job this week is to keep momma well-fed and healthy. As long as momma is doing her job of cleaning and feeding the pups, we don't have much to do! That's just the way we like it!
|
WEEK THREE
When the pups are 3 weeks old, we bring them up to the main living area of the house. Mom has access to the pups as much as she wants. At this point, mom really enjoys being back with the humans. She's comfortable with all the family snuggling her pups - we love on each of them several times every day.
